Easy Tips & Tricks To Improve Your Dental Health

For sure you’re aware that brushing and flossing daily are important to your oral hygiene. But there are other tips and tricks that your dentist in Templestowe would want you to know and follow. These tips and tricks are easy to follow yet will make significantly improve your oral health and help prevent serious dental problems in the future.

Here are some tips and tricks to take better control of your oral health:

Tilt your toothbrush the proper way.
You’re always asked to brush twice or thrice a day for optimum results. But aside from the frequency with which you brush your teeth, you must also pay attention to how you do it. To effectively clean your teeth, tilt your brush at a 45-degree angle, which helps you clean closer to the gum line. Additionally, brush in a gentle circular motion instead of back and forth.

Brush your tongue.
Oral health is not just about the teeth; it’s about the mouth as a whole. When bacteria builds up in your tongue, for instance, you are likely to get bad breath. Brushing your tongue will help avoid this. Some toothbrushes have a built-in brush for the tongue, so it’s better to use these instead of buying a completely separate brush. However, remember that you shouldn’t use the toothbrush’s bristles themselves for the tongue.

Cut out food and drinks that stain your teeth.
Rule of thumb is that if it can stain your clothes, it can stain your teeth. Try to avoid high-sugar juices and black coffee. Load up on fresh fruits and vegetables instead. Drink lots of milk too; it’s rich in calcium which keeps your teeth and bones strong!

Quit smoking.
Aside from being bad for your lungs, smoking is also bad for your teeth. It stains the teeth’s surface and also leads to bad breath. Cigarettes make it harder for your gums to heal as well.

Replace your toothbrush regularly.
Old toothbrushes aren’t effective in brushing away plaques. Replace your toothbrush every 3 to 4 months, or as soon as you notice the bristles fraying. For sensitive teeth and gums, choose a medium- to a soft-bristled toothbrush.

People mistakenly believe that good oral health is complicated. But really, all you need to do are the basics!
